Further Studies courses in Mathematics, Physics, and English are designed to prepare Grade 11 and 12 learners for university-level study. These courses provide opportunities to engage with advanced content, fostering independent learning, critical thinking, and a deeper understanding of complex subject matter.

Offerings:

Further Studies Mathematics

Further Studies Mathematics extends the standard Mathematics curriculum, offering advanced content suitable for learners pursuing tertiary studies in Mathematics, Engineering, or Sciences, including Actuarial Science.

  • Standard Level: Covers Number Theory, Algebra, Differential & Integral Calculus, Vectors, Euclidean & Coordinate Geometry, and Trigonometry.

  • Extended Level: Includes elective branches such as Statistics and Probability, Finance and Mathematical Modelling, Matrices, and Graph Theory.

 

Further Studies English

Further Studies English is designed for learners with a keen interest in English literature. The course includes:

  • Engagement with Complex Texts: Exploration of challenging poetry, prose, and films.

  • Critical Analysis: Development of sophisticated arguments and inter-textual analysis.

 

Further Studies Physics

Further Studies Physics is suited for learners with a strong interest in Physical Sciences. The course covers:

  • In-Depth Knowledge: Advanced understanding of classical and modern physics.

  • Key Content Areas: Thermal Physics, Modern Physics, and Mechanics.

 

Recognition

Further Studies courses are available to both independent and public schools and are quality-assured by Stellenbosch University's Unit for International Credentialing (SU-UIC), with certificates issued by the IEB. These courses have been benchmarked by UK Ecctis and are recognised as comparable to the GCE Advanced (A) level standard, facilitating access to international universities requiring A-level qualifications for certain faculties.
