ASSESSMENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR HOME EDUCATED LEARNERS




Home education learners are learners whose education is managed by a parent and not an education institution that assumes the functions of a school.

  

The IEB has established a facility for the assessment of home educated learners. It provides home schooling parents with the opportunity of accessing a range of assessments to determine their child’s competency levels in terms of language and mathematical skills. These assessments are available for learners in Grade 3, Grade 6, Grade 7 and Grade 9.

 

The assessments will focus on mid-year and year-end competencies in each grade. Reports will be issued on the results of all assessments, indicating an individual learner’s strengths and weaknesses as measured against the competency levels for that particular grade.

 

These assessments can be done online using the IEB’s secure exam portal cloud software or in traditional pen and paper format.

 

The 2020 year-end assessments will be available from Monday, 9 November 2020. The duration and cost of each of these subject specific assessments will be:

A set of assessment guidelines for each assessment will be provided to parents on registration for the relevant assessments.
