The Independent Examinations Board (IEB) is a South African independent assessment agency that conducts assessment for schooling and adult education. The IEB is a leader in innovative assessments that are relevant to South Africa. The IEB has established itself as a significant role-player and a key partner to government in building our education system in a democratic South Africa. The IEB is accredited by Umalusi, Quality Assurance Council for the General and Further Education and Training, to offer examinations in the schooling and adult education sectors.
The IEB is looking to fill the vacancy of Materials Production: Senior Editor. The primary responsibility would be to ensure the production of quality material that meets the requirements of the IEB’s client base as well as external quality assurance agencies.
The successful applicant will:
· Edit and proofread question papers with all materials related to the examinations.
· Support the Materials Production business unit by ensuring all examination material and documentation is accurate, error-free and prepared timeously.
· Translation of the IEB circulars from English to Afrikaans.
· Ensure examination papers are moderated as required by relevant external agency e.g. Umalusi for National Senior Certificate (NSC) and Stellenbosch University – Unit for International Credentialing (SU– UIC) for International Secondary Certificate (ISC).
· Ensure that all NSC/ISC question papers are ready for printing by August/September yearly before commencement of year-end examinations in October.
· Liaise with Dispatch and the Information Technology business unit to assist with the preparation, distribution and filing of the IEB key documents mainly: Examiners’ Reports • Internal Moderators’ Reports • Subject Assessment Guidelines • Curriculum and Assessment Manuals • Prescribed Works • NSC/ISC Circulars • Amendment Slips for Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAGs).
· Assists the Materials Production: Senior Manager with overseeing the work of the section as and when required.
Required qualifications:
· Matric/Grade 12 Certificate.
· Relevant Degree or its equivalent (e.g.: Applied Linguistics).
· Editing and Proofreading Qualification.
Minimum experience/knowledge required:
· Project management (planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation).
· Proficient in English and Afrikaans (verbal and written).
· 5 years minimum experience as a Copy Editor.
· Knowledge of the IEB Subject Assessment Guidelines for Gr 12 learners (Advantageous).
